Frequently Asked Questions

Searching for Answers About... Body Shame, Low Self-Esteem, or Being in a Larger Body?

Q: "How do I cope with being stared at in public spaces like gym class?"
A: Fat teens often feel like gym class is a space of judgment. I’ll help you develop practical coping strategies to feel confident and challenge the societal systems that contribute to body shaming. Together, we’ll build resilience and empower you to take up space wherever you are.
Q: "What can I do when my family constantly comments on my weight?"
A: Setting boundaries with family is crucial, especially when it comes to comments about your body. In therapy, I’ll help you create reframing techniques and build assertive communication skills, so you can stand firm in your body while navigating those conversations with confidence. - Check out this blog post on this topic!
Q: "Can you really have an eating disorder at any size?"
A: Absolutely! Binge eating disorder and restrictive behaviors don't discriminate by body size. Our work focuses on healing, not weight. - Check out this blog post on this topic!
Q: "As a queer person in a larger body, will therapy actually get me?"
A: LGBTQ+-affirming fat liberation therapy centers your lived experience. Your identities aren’t “issues”—they’re part of your strength. - Check out this blog post on this topic!

The Questions I Hear Most About Rest Guilt & Burnout

Q: "Why do I feel like I don’t deserve to rest?"
A: That’s rest trauma—a product of grind culture. Together, we’ll dismantle the idea that your value comes from productivity.

Q: "How do I stop overworking without feeling guilty?"
A: We’ll identify where hustle culture has shaped your self-worth and build new rhythms that honor your humanity, not just your output.

Q: "Is burnout just my fault for not ‘handling it’ better?"
A: No. Burnout often reflects oppressive systems, not personal failure. Therapy for activists and caregivers addresses these root causes.

Struggling with Anxiety, Depression, or Something You Can't Identify Just Yet?

Q: "I was the ‘gifted kid’—why am I so exhausted now?"

A: Gifted kid burnout is real. Let’s challenge the myth that achievement equals worth and find sustainable ways to live life.

Q: "Why hasn’t therapy helped my anxiety before?"
A: Most therapy ignores systemic stressors. My trauma-informed approach acknowledges how oppression fuels anxiety—then we work with it.

Q: "How do I deal with depression when ‘just get sunshine’ isn’t enough?"
A: No quick fixes here. We’ll honor your pain while rebuilding a sense of worth separate from productivity or body size.
